Let's TWIST again!!!

Summertime has officially arrived in Miami! As much as I love wearing my hair out, it's just too hot and humid to "fro" it out.

A few weeks ago, I visited Sayblee and she dry twisted my hair... I think I found my summertime style...

Sayblee blew out my hair and twisted it with her shea butter styling creme

I love these mini twists because I can experiment with different styles!!!

I took this photo right she twisted my hair :-)

I took my twists out a little after two weeks
What are your current summer styles?

I think I fell in love AGAIN...

I fell in love.... with flat twists. A few months ago, I didn't think I had the potential to flat twist my hair but it all changed when I discovered Charjay's youtube tutorial. My hairstyle regime hasn't been the same since!
Lately, I've been combining Charjay's style and this style that I saw via instagram

I've started doing this style too!!
This photo was taken from instagram via @sumetrareed

For some reason, when I try a style it doesn't look nearly as great as the tutorial but I'm still learning :-). I still love it!

I'm still working on how to take good pictures of the back of my head, lol

I'm debating about posting  a mini tutorial for this style- let me know what you guys think?  Have you tried flat twists? Do you flat twist your hair?  Have you ever fallen in love with a style? Talk to me!

I can't deny it...

I cannot deny it, there truly is something about the hair salon!  A little while ago, Alexis  wrote about how much she loves the salon too.  For a long time,  I was very skeptical of natural hairstylists but I'm definitely beginning to change my mind..

I've abandoned twist and twist outs for braids and braids out and no matter how meticulously I try to do my hair, hairstylists still put me to shame, lol

I recently tried a dry braid out at Sayblee's salon and I loved the result!
Sayblee blew out my hair and cornrowed it. I wish my cornrows looked like this!

The next morning... I unbraided one side of my hair

The final result!

Maybe just one day one day, my styling techniques will rival Sayblee's( I highly doubt that).

So here is my question to you, do you feel like your hairstyling techniques are just as a good as  stylists? Talk to me!

To henna or to dye?

About a month  and a half ago, I discovered something that completely rocked my world..... I discovered one gray hair! I'm sure many of you are thinking, it's just a gray hair, what's the big deal?  It's a big deal because neither one of my parents starting getting gray hair until their late 40s and I'm about 20 + years ahead of them!

I'm hoping that I won't have to make any more changes soon but I think I need to keep my options open just in case a "few" more decide to sprout up....

Here are my options:

www.lushusa.com is one of my favorite stores! I use their facial products, soaps and now makeup :-). Lush has a few henna options but I'm not sure if this is the best option for me

Lush's dark colored henna

Or I could just go with some good ol' fashion hair dye- however I don't trust myself to do it myself- I will seek Sayblee Darsale's professional advice for this one...

I did a quick search on youtube and came across this celebrity stylist video about dying natural hair with Kiyah Wright. She dyed this particular client's natural hair and I really like the result( she also had a few great tips for adding volume to twist outs).

Talk to me! Have you considered henna or dying your hair? What was the end result? Did your hair change its texture? What do you think I should do?

Okay, I have no idea if this is the "Best Twistout in Life"but I am in the search of it. I'll post pictures and you can be the judge!

Are you changing??

Change. Some people fear change while others embrace it. My natural hair has allowed me to analyze various aspects of my life. Due to my natural hair, I've become more health conscious- realizing how wonderfully our bodies are constructed and exercising caution about my food choices.

Additionally, it's challenged my definitions of my beauty, self-respect, and being a member of the African disaspora.

Last but not least, I actually enjoy exercising without fear of sweating out my hair and  more.

Being natural is liberating, I do not fear water( well- sometimes I do...), I do not fear humidity, I do not fear  rejecting conformity.

I embrace all of the indiosyncrities that form my identity.

" Natural hair isn't political"-

I always find it interesting when I read articles that are quick to mention that being natural isn't a political thing, that one is simply is doing it to take better care of themselves. However, I realize that many people are so uncomfortable challenging others' beliefs that we stay complacent.  How isn't it a political statement when you are clearly rejecting decades and even centuries old ideology that imposed the belief that if you have curly or kinky hair that it must be corrected? When you're rejecting something, you're taking a political stance! I do believe that there is a way to help others realize this that comes from a loving place and not a place of condemnation. I'm the first to admit that I haven't always presented this in a loving way...

WOOOO! That was heavy!  I still have some growing to do!

What about you, has natural hair has changed your perceptions? Or is hair just hair to you?? Talk to me!
